D - Determination To Change Destiny

#AtoZChallenge 2021 April Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter D

Since my children were young, I was determined not to succumb to cancer and leave them behind without a mom. My immediate focus was on taking care of my children and my family. I was determined never to leave them emotionally shattered at a young age. I wanted to live, at least until they were old enough to take care of themselves. I craved for quantity in life, rather than good quality. I was willing to compromise on many things, given that I could get a few years to be with my children. My determination to live longer was very strong and I believe that was one of the factors that has given me this 25 years after cancer.

As I went through chemotherapy and my body felt its side-effects, my confidence, and determination were shaking, but then all I had to do was to look at my children and dare to dream a life with them. That supplied me with an incredible amount of determination and energy to fight it out, no matter how hard it was.

Determination to succeed is a great part of the success story. Though determination can be a positive and powerful motivator, it is not easy to feel determined and positive when we are going through cancer, its tormenting treatment and changes in life we have to make all of a sudden. My idea was to shift my goal from surviving cancer to some other goals which I always wanted to achieve. That helped me stay determined to fight it out, a hard to win battle, even in those times when it was physically exhausting.

Leaving my immediate fight of staying alive, slowly I focused on living to fulfill my dream of continuing my education, seeing my children grow up, travel outside India and meet people in  a different country, become financially independent completely, and learn to enjoy life keeping aside discipline. I dared to dream big when I was fighting cancer, and this determination to fulfill the dream helped me stay positive, energetic and never to quit.

I know everyone faces cancer in different stages of life..The situations and relationships are different for everyone. Also, there are a lot more bigger battles than cancer, but nothing can be more fatal than the loss of will to do anything. No matter who you are, what you are going through, your determination to live and succeed will have a great effect on the outcome of the situation. When you feel positive and confident, your brain and body responds in a different way. You get tuned to success.

If you are facing a tough phase, take a deep breath and get up with gusto to fight it out with a determination to succeed. Success will follow …
