B - Bald yet Brave and Bold.

 #AtoZChallenge 2021 April Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter B

I believed in the quote until cancer happened and I had to undergo Chemotherapy

Beauty is but skin deep - most of the people around think that way. Beauty is your outward appearance like your skin tone, weight, height, facial feature and off course the crowning glory hair.

Women with bald heads do not fall under the norm because that fashion statement is often ignored. Chemotherapy is a must, and with chemotherapy most of the cancer patients lose their hair. When you are fighting for your life, hair is not a big deal but for those who are losing it (whether they complain or not) it means a lot.

With breast cancer treatment, the first loss happened to me with the removal of breast. I felt less feminine without the breast. Later hair loss followed, making me look so different from my earlier appearance. I was losing my confidence at the speed at which DC was losing its fans after the release of Whedon’s Justice League .

I decided to snap out of it and be bold and brave. I started carrying myself with confidence and stopped fearing to venture out. The first time I was forced out of my home when my younger sister sustained burns and had to be rushed to hospital. After that, I decided it is OK to go out. All I needed was that little push. I started wearing a wig at times. Everyone and everything around me changed once I became bold and  bravely stepped out of my comfort zone and cave. With or without hair, I realized I was the same person. I need not depend on those strands for my confidence.

Being bold with the changes you feel in your body is very important. You need to be brave to face the criticism or looks people may throw towards you. Finally it is the strength within you to face the world which matters and not those strands on your head.

  1. Beautiful post. Thank you for sharing your experience and insights. I'm not sure how my head would look if bald... it feels kind of bumpy to me!

  2. Did you wear a wig often? I have heard that they feel scratchy and uncomfortable. I suppose a beanie would feel better but not in the summer.
