55 Fiction - Child Labor?????

Tired and weary, walking with shaking legs, she sighed as her back broke under the weight.
She eyed the slum girls playing around happily and envied them.
Finally, there was the door that led to her home.
She pulled herself inside, threw the school bag, straightened her back and sat down to finish her homework.

    1. It is funny for a good teacher who does not overburden their students ... but for others it may make sense.

  2. I do not understand why studying is considered so cumbersome to some. Children's mind are active and hence can learn and grasp in tender age but do not overburden them.

    1. I enjoy studying and doing it even now when I don't have to. It is those back breaking heavy bags children carry, overburden of homework which leaves them no leisure time, pressure from parents that drives them to suicide and also harsh capitol punishment (which has taken young lives) that makes me wonder at times whether our education is becoming borderline child labor?

    1. The new perspective dawned on me when a girl I know mentioned that she wished she could among the slum children who were playing, when she was walking to her tuition classes immediately after coming back from school. I feel today's education is putting burden on children... way beyond they can handle.

  4. Thought-provoking!
Children are so heavily overburdened (literally and figuratively) that they are robbed of their childhood.
In many cases, spontaneity is stolen from the child. Even leisure activities are taken too seriously. Children are not allowed to play games; they are sent for coaching.
They are not allowed to dance; they are sent for dance classes.
    The list can be endless.

    1. So many students are driven to suicide as their young minds cannot cope with the pressure. Time for us to see what we are doing to our children
